Community Over Competition | ISO:ALT | Virginia Beach Wedding Photographer

Today I have to share with you one of the most amazing parts of what I do and how I almost gave it all up till I met Misty and Michael.

So many times I hear people say how they hate their jobs and can’t wait to retire and live the life they always dreamed. Thankfully I can say I don’t want to retire… If it means giving up capturing smiles, life, sweet moments, and the ability to work with some of the most creative and amazing vendors in our community… Then I don’t want to retire. I LOVE what I do! I love being able to help tell stories and capture moments with my clients that I know they will cherish. It’s truly a DREAM to do what I do. And they say, “You will never work a day in your life if you love what you do.” And I can honestly say I agree with that statement.

BUT… It wasn’t always that way. There was a time I feared walking in to a room of fellow photographer. For fear of being laughed at for not being like them. For fear of not being as ‘Great’ as they are. For fear of being told I wasn’t good enough. You see these fears and doubts placed me in a dark place in my photography world. I almost gave up everything I loved because of the fear of letting others judge me.

Than one day a dear friend (fellow photographer) asked me to go to an ISO: Alternative workshop. She wanted me to see the other side of this photography world I loved so dearly. So I did. I admit I was terrified walking up to this group of photographers, wedding vendors, and those I followed on social media. It took me a moment to see that this group of people were just like me. Each on their own path and wanting to keep their love of photography growing too.

I left that workshop feeling stronger, better, and eager to learn more.

I was invited back to another workshop with ISO: Alternative. I got to see the amazing Michael Dragon of Dragon Studio capture some stunning images, I got to see Misty of Misty Saves the Day work her social media magic, And I got to watch more sweet wedding vendors come together to create masterpieces for the world to see.

There was a moment at the end of that workshop that I was nervous to walk up to Misty & Michael. But I did. I thanked them from the bottom of my heart for inviting me, for helping me, and for showing me the beautiful side to the wedding community. But most of all… I was grateful for their support and for lighting a spark in my photography world that was unlike any other. I left that workshop even more excited for the year to come and what I was going to capture along the way.

One of the greatest parts of all of this was learning later that Misty and Michael had created a world for vendors just like me. A safe place, creative place, a place to learn and grow with other vendors such as myself. They call it ISO: Education & from there created ISO: Academy. I am so excited that I am apart of such an amazing community and ISO: Academy group.

There isn’t a moment or time that when I needed help, advice, or just a place to feel safe as I was learning that Misty and Michael weren’t there for. Their help and love of our wedding community is one to admire and be grateful for.

The ISO:Education/Academy is a beautiful place they created for business owners to come together and learn and grow together. The way they take each class/workshop and encourage us to be apart of it as we learn is the greatest. Even more better is how fun and relaxing they make it.

If you are a business owner (doesn’t matter what field) or a vendor who is searching for that perfect places to learn and grow in to help your business flourish… I promise you will want to JOIN their ISO: Education/Academy classes!

I’ve watched my photography grow so much over this past year just because of Misty (Misty Saves the Day) and Michael Dragon (Photographer)… All they have taught me and encouraged me to do with my business is something I will never be able to repay them for. Their love and respect for our community is one I admire and truly am blessed to be apart of.

I wanted to share some images from the workshops I got to be apart of. To show you just how amazing their work is, and how they allow you as a business owner to grow in your passion and field.

I captured these images back in 2016 during Misty and Michael’s workshops they offered and created for us all.
